The Tigergen Team
Tigergen I is designed and built by students from the University of Missouri. Taking skills learned in class, team members have the chance to apply their studies.
Here are just some of the student lead projects that we have accomplished:
- Mechanical engineers designed and welded the chassis as well as other parts of the car.
- Chemical engineers researched hydrogen fuel cells and designed our fuel system.
- Electrical engineers have designed our telemetry system to relay information to our following vehicle, and built our battery protection system.
All of our engineers work across departments to bring Tigergen to life. This allows them to learn from each other and gain skills outside of their area of study.
In addition, our team is active in promoting fuel cell technology around our extended community, at venues that encourage higher education, and green energy. In this way, our team can expand on the knowledge gained from six generations of solar car teams, and use it to build and promote technologies that have the ability to lead us to a sustainable future.
We are open to all majors, graduate and undergraduate students; team members devise business plans, fundraise, and do their own publicity.
A detailed Team History is also available.
Great Race 2008
Due to unforeseen problems with travel permits to China, the Great Race 2008 has been delayed until late August to late October. Because we are team of students, we are no longer able to participate in this year's race due to school. All the same, make sure you watch as this century old event goes from New York City to Paris. Keep up to date with the race at the Great Race 2008 Web site.
North American Solar Car Challenge 2008
Set in July, the Mizzou Hydorgen Car Team is taking part in the race as it goes from Austin, Texas to Calgary, Alberta. Tigergen I will be participating in 2,400 mile race as a demonstration vehicle due to it being a hydrogen fuel cell car. However, we will be running the same course as the other solar car teams. Presently over 20 solar teams and three other demonstration teams have signed up to go. Find out more about the race at its Web site.
